New Team, New Store, New Year

It’s already almost 2022!

It seems not too long ago that I personally began my journey into Warhammer 40K and already I’ve experienced so much with this wonderful game: the last minute painting of models before an event, playtesting and theory crafting new lists, meeting awesome new friends and teammates, travelling to big events with the Team, and starting up this blog. I’m ecstatic to see where it all goes from here and I wanted to take this time to go over some of the changes and goals going into the New Year for Team Ettin! Before I begin I’d like to thank Team Ettin, the Ettin Games staff & the gaming community. Without all of them none of this would be possible and my love for this game just wouldn’t be where it is now, so seriously, THANK YOU ALL!

New Year, New Store

The first exciting news going into 2022 is a whole new store for Ettin Games. Moving within the same strip center this amazing new store will feature 2 private gaming rooms, a dedicated card gaming space, and dedicated wargaming tables! It’s no surprise to anyone that this long awaited change is finally happening, it needed to. If you’ve stayed with Ettin over the years you’ve watched as the store began to fill with gamers and new lines of product, causing an overall cramped environment. The increase in space is very welcomed and I for one cannot wait to play some Warhammer and work in our all new stylized space. Expect more news on our personal Facebook page about the full reopening, until then we will be at our usual location!

Team Captains & Player Contracts

Team Ettin is taking on so much responsibility next year that we feel the need to appoint 2 Team Captains going into the 2022 season. One of which being me, Chad Stubblefield. The other being our resident War Dog aficionado, Kevin McCormick! Kevin’s been so amazing and driven in this process of creating content and helping out the team that I really couldn’t think of anyone better to help keep us on track for 2022, so Congratulations to Kevin!

With the upcoming projects, tournaments, and overall ITC season we wanted to make sure that there were clear guidelines in place for those wearing the store logo at events as well as make sure these players had benefits for doing so. Starting February 1st, Team Ettin players will be signed to player contracts. We won’t go into the nitty-gritty details of it all but there's a lot that this all entails and we’ll be doing a player profile on every team member going into the first cycle of contracts!

One-on-One Coaching Sessions

Coming to Ettin Games in February: 40K Competitive Coaching Sessions. That’s right, you’ll be able to book and reserve times with various Team Ettin members to help level up your 40K skills. They’ll offer list building sessions, gameplay sessions, and generalized coaching sessions in any area where you feel you need improvement. You’ll be able to pick the day, time and specialized coach from our Team Ettin members meaning, for example, you could learn the in’s and out’s of competitive Space Marines with Brian, the Team’s Deathwatch player. All-in-all this is an exciting change and a unique hands on experience not offered anywhere else in Northside Houston. More on pricing and the coaching sessions as we get closer to February.

Tabled Talk: A Team Ettin Competitive Podcast

Starting, (hopefully), in mid-January 2022, Tabled Talk will be an all around Competitive 40K podcast that will cover new rules releases, game fundamentals, interviews with Houston area players who have had success and much, much more! The podcast will be hosted by me, but at various times will feature a variety of the Team Ettin players and Houston area players. This is another medium in which we can put a positive competitive atmosphere out into the world and share our thoughts on the game we all love!

New Year Goals

I’m a big believer in setting reasonably high-bars when it comes to goals I want to achieve or see achieved in the future. By January of 2023 I’m setting the following goals/challenges for the Team to achieve:

  1. Team Ettin will be in the top 20 of ITC ranked Teams.
  2. At Least 4 Team Ettin members will be in the top 150 list of ITC players, 2 of which are in the top 75.
  3. Every Team Member will have an RTT win.
  4. At least one Team Member will have a Gt/Major Podium finish.

That’s it for this week's article. There’s a lot of exciting things in the works for Team Ettin, and I, for one, cannot wait to see how it all comes to fruition.

From all of us on Team Ettin, have a Happy and safe New Years! We can’t wait to come into 2022 and take competitive Warhammer 40K into a new age of smart, purposeful, and fun gameplay & content!
